Gipuzkoa Football Women’s Network Event Highlights the Role of Women in Soccer
Last Wednesday, December 4, the Gipuzkoa Football Women’s Network held a new event at the Ipurua Stadium. The goal was to highlight and value the role of women in different areas of soccer, from sports management to on-field play. The event, which was well attended, was moderated by Aintzane Encinas, former Real Sociedad professional player and president of the Tximist Foundation.
Women Leaders Share Their Careers and Challenges
During the first part of the event, four women leaders in sports management shared their professional journeys and the challenges they faced to reach their current positions. The speakers included Begoña Larzabal (Real Sociedad), Alicia Figueroa (Askatuak), Oneida Zubia (Gipuzkoako Futbol Federazioa), and Arrate Fernández (SD Eibar). Each offered inspiring testimonials about their careers and how soccer can serve as a driver of social change.
Top-Level Soccer and Historic Derbies
The second part of the event focused on top-level soccer, featuring Ane Campos (SD Eibar), Mirari Uria (Real Sociedad), and Ana Rodríguez, former Eibartarrak player. They discussed the historic women’s derby scheduled for December 8 at Ipurua. The conversation recalled iconic moments, including the Super Cup victory 25 years ago by Eibartarrak, highlighting the evolution of women’s football in the region.
The Importance of Visibility and Support
In addition to moderating the debate, Aintzane Encinas reflected on the need for greater visibility for women in soccer. She emphasized the importance of filling stadiums and supporting events like this from the stands and the media. “The growth of women’s soccer is evident, but it is vital that society also supports it from the stands and the media,” she said.
Tximist Foundation’s Commitment to Gender Equality
The Tximist Foundation, committed to gender equality and the promotion of women’s leadership in soccer, strongly supports initiatives like this. Encinas stated, “We believe in creating spaces for meetings and reflection that strengthen the network of women in sport, especially in a territory with such a rich soccer tradition as Gipuzkoa.”
This event is another example of the foundation’s commitment to education in values and the creation of female role models in sports, which are fundamental pillars of its mission. The Tximist Foundation thanks all participants and attendees and reaffirms its commitment to continue promoting initiatives that empower women in sport.
