The seventh edition of the Tximist Cup has been presented, a competition in memory of the former physical trainer of Real Sociedad, Juan Carlos Samaniego, known as ‘Tximist.’ The tournament will take place from June 16 to 24 in Hondarribia.
The Tximist Cup has become an international benchmark, featuring the women’s youth teams of Real Sociedad and top-level international clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Malmö FF from Sweden, Atlético de Madrid, and Kiryat Gat from Israel, among other major teams from the main European leagues. The tournament boasts a prestigious lineup.
During the presentation event held this morning in the Plaza de Armas of Hondarribia, participants included Juan Luis Silanes, Sports Councilor of the Hondarribia City Council; Garbiñe Etxeberria, Sports Director of Real Sociedad; Edurne Sagastume, Julen Samaniego, and Irati Samaniego, representatives of Tximist Foundation; Aintzane Encinas, Tximist Cup Director; and Kimitoshi Nougawa, Director of Oialic International Development.
Sports Councilor Juan Luis Silanes highlighted the City Council’s support for the tournament, which has become a reference in women’s football. The tournament director, Aintzane Encinas, noted that the event has grown significantly since its first edition, with over 6,000 participating players.
Teams from more than 12 countries will compete across 5 categories, and on June 24, the ‘Legends’ category will mark a milestone in Basque women’s football by bringing together four historic and prominent teams for the first time: Real Sociedad, Athletic Club, Oiartzun KE, and Añorga KKE. It will be the perfect culmination for a high-level tournament.
