A South African delegation visited Gipuzkoa as part of an initiative led by the Tximist Foundation in collaboration with LALIGA International, with the aim of promoting equal opportunities, inclusion, and international cooperation through sport.
This project builds on the work carried out in previous editions and strengthens an institutional partnership that continues to grow year after year. Last year, a similar experience was organized with a delegation from Angola, helping to establish a stable and long-term collaboration between the Tximist Foundation and the institutions of Gipuzkoa.
Institutional Reception in San Sebastián and the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa
During their stay, the South African delegation was officially welcomed at the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa by:
- Nerea Isasi, Director for Equality of Women and Men
- Roberto Ramajo, Director of Sports
- Ana Priede, Director of International Cooperation
- Irune Berasaluze, Deputy for Governance
The delegation was also received at San Sebastián City Hall by Mayor Jon Insausti during an institutional event that highlighted the role of sport as a powerful tool for social transformation, inclusion, and equal opportunities.
Both meetings emphasized the importance of strengthening international projects that promote women’s empowerment through sport.
The Equality Ball as a Symbol of Equal Opportunities
At each institutional reception, the South African delegation presented the symbolic Equality Ball, a signed football representing equal opportunities in sport and society.
Used during the Tximist Cup, the Equality Ball has become a powerful symbol of the project and its global message.
The players were appointed Equality Ball ambassadors, committing themselves to spreading its message worldwide:
“Wherever it rolls, people will know that opportunities are shining.”
A Sporting and Cultural Experience in Gipuzkoa
During their visit, the delegation explored some of Gipuzkoa’s leading sports facilities, including Zubieta and Anoeta Stadium, gaining insight into the region’s football development model.
They also visited some of San Sebastián’s most iconic landmarks, including the Peine del Viento sculpture, Miramar Palace, and the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd, enjoying a valuable cultural exchange experience.
Participation in the Tximist Cup
The South African players took part in the international Tximist Cup, enjoying high-level competition, international exchange, and shared learning experiences.
The tournament continues to strengthen its position as a benchmark event for women’s football and for promoting values such as equality, diversity, and cooperation.
A Growing International Partnership
The visit of the South African delegation reinforces a collaboration that continues to grow between the Tximist Foundation, LALIGA International, and the institutions of Gipuzkoa.
Following last year’s successful experience with Angola, this new exchange demonstrates the continuity, stability, and expansion of a project that has become a leading platform for sport with social impact.
Football as a Driver of Equality
The Equality Ball continues its journey carrying a universal message:
“Equal opportunities are a match that everyone can win.”
