One year later, the AFE Veterans Team lifted the champion’s trophy once again in a tournament that continues to gain prestige, both in Spain and internationally. Competing in the Legends category of the renowned Tximist Cup—now in its ninth edition—the team was led by Iraia Iturregi, with Saioa González (delegate) and Blanca Crespo (fitness coach/physiotherapist) on the bench.
This edition of the tournament was held in Hondarribia, where AFE defended their title in a round-robin format against Real Sociedad, RCD Espanyol, and Erein Amorebieta—three squads composed of former elite players who have made a lasting impact on the growth of women’s football in Spain.
Goals and Highlights
On June 21, all four teams played 25-minute matches. The day kicked off with Real Sociedad defeating Espanyol 2-0.
Next, AFE delivered a solid 3-0 victory over Erein Amorebieta, with goals from Saray, Olga, and Amparito.
Following a goalless draw between Real Sociedad and Erein, AFE returned to dominate Espanyol 4-0. Scorers included Emma Marqués, Jenifer Morilla (2), and Carmen García.
In the penultimate game, Erein Amorebieta beat Espanyol 2-0. This set the stage for a highly anticipated final matchup: Real Sociedad vs. AFE, just like the previous edition.
In a thrilling match, Ana Romero ‘Willy’ missed a penalty that could have opened the scoring. Shortly after, Jenifer Morilla capitalized on a rebound off the crossbar from a free kick by Olga García to score for AFE. Ane Bergara equalized for Real Sociedad, but the 1-1 draw was enough for AFE to secure the tournament title once more.
Promoting Equality and Visibility
The Tximist Cup has become an exceptional platform to promote gender equality and highlight female role models in sport. AFE remains committed to supporting initiatives that foster recognition, empowerment, and visibility for women of all ages in athletics.
This tournament, featuring legends of Spanish women’s football, continues to inspire future generations.
